Convention signed between the Communications Regulatory Authority and the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni
Measurement activity of the quality of the internet connection will start on the 1st of October.
On the 16th of September 2009 the convention between the Communications Regulatory Authority (Agcom) and the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni (Fub) has been signed in Rome. The agreement, provided for the law 18/2009 and subscribed at the headquarters of the Authority by the president of Agcom Corrado Calabrò and the president of Fub Enrico Manca, will last three years and will foresee activities of technical analysis and study and economic and regulatory activities in support of the authority carried out by the Fondazione.
The object of the analysis by the Fondazione amongst other things will be the evolution of electronic communication networks with particular attention paid to security and neutrality aspects, market and technological developments related to new services such as converging ones and the technical instruments to guarantee a better safeguard of users.
The convention consolidates a co-operation between Agcom and Fub that already started with the designation of Fub -sided by the Superior Institute for Communications and Information Technology of the department of the Ministry for the Economic Development in the role of supervisor and controller - as an independent subject in charge of supplying a verification service on the quality of broad band internet access services from fixed stations as provided for bylaw 244/08/CSP. With such measure the Authority introduced a new system allowing consumers to directly know and detect the performances related to internet connection offers by each operator and the effective access quality whereas the service has been activated. The measuring activities performed by the Fondazione will begin on the 1st of October.
For president of the Authority Corrado Calabrò "the convention signed today represents an important step that enforces the co-operation between two realities of excellence and the effort of the Agcom in promoting research and innovation in communications through close relationships with the best academic institutions and Italian universities".
For president of Fondazione Bordoni Enrico Manca "the signature of this convention with Agcom constitutes an important and significant recognition of the high operational and scientific quality of the research activities of the Fondazione Bordoni. A result that has also been achieved by the Parliament approval of Law n. 69 last June that defines the public relevance of the activities of the Fondazione Bordoni; a result that urges a reflection on the necessity to provide the Fondazione itself with proper instruments and means that will permanently ensure the level of its research in critical areas for the development of the country".
