FUB has achieved a sound, internationally recognised, experience of participation in international research initiatives and programmes, including the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission as well as other European and international initiatives.

FUB contributes to the achievement of the Europe 2020 strategy. In particular through  its Flagship Initiatives, namely “Innovation Union” and “Digital agenda for Europe”, promoting multilateral cooperation among research institutions within the European Research Area.

FUB also participates in relevant international Fora and cooperates with several European and non-European institutions. Particularly worthy of note is the technical-scientific support to the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) for activities within CEPT (Conférence Européenne des Administrations des Postes et des Télécommunications).  FUB also participates in official events organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), including several editions of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) where FUB staff was part of the official Italian delegation.

FUB is active  in two COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) actions in the fields of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and Earth System Science and Environmental Management (ESSEM) . COST is the longest-running European framework supporting trans-national cooperation among researchers, engineers and scholars across Europe. Based on a European intergovernmental framework for cooperation in science and technology, COST is a unique means to jointly develop initiatives across all fields in science and technology, including social sciences and humanities, through pan-European networking of nationally funded research activities.

FUB also participates to other international activities, including the Joint Programmes on Smart Cities and Smart Grids within the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), and RES4MED (Renewable Energy Solutions for the Mediterranean). Furthermore, it is a member of European networks EIP-AHA (European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing), NET-EUCEN (Network of European stakeholder to enhance user centricity in e-governance),  ENFSI (European Network of Forensic Science Institutes), IAFPA (International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics), NetWorld2020, and the Europeana Network.

Finally, FUB has an extensive experience in managing EU-funded projects, especially within the 7th Framework Programme and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme.

Currently, FUB is actively engaged in Horizon 2020.

FUB is associate member of APRE (Italian Agency for the Promotion of the European Research), Italian National Contact Point of Horizon 2020.

In order to foster the participation to EU/International funding opportunities, FUB relies on the International Project Office, established within the Research Directorate, which supports individual researchers and teams in the project proposal definition and in the project management.
