Giambattista Amati

Graduated "cum laude" in Mathematics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". In 2003, he received a PhD in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, conceiving and founding Terrier, an open source search engine.

He has organised several international conferences, as General Chair for the International Conference BCS-ICTIR in 2011, Posters Chair of ACM -CIKM in 2011, Workshops Chair of ACM-SIGIR in 2010, General Chair of BCS-ECIR on 2007, Posters Chair of ACM -SIGIR on 2007. He is the editor of the "Information Retrieval Models" for the Encyclopaedia of Database Systems of Springer. Since 2006 he is Adjunct Professor at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" teaching a course on "Information Retrieval".

Since 2013 he is in charge of research and development projects on Big Data with both industrial and institutional partnership, on sentiment detection in social networks, and more generally on hardware and software infrastructures for Business Intelligence and Mining Massive Datasets.
